TIPS ON HOW TO WRITE YOUR RESUME
Your Resume often gives Employers their first impression of your professional standards and work background. Your resume plays a key part of your job search strategy. Consider it both your life and your career on paper.
Here are some of the most common things that Employers want to know. Why should I talk to you? Can you fill our open position without a lot of training? What can you do for our organization? With stacks of resumes on their desks Employers just don’t have the time to go through 10 to 20 years of everyone’s work history, just to find someone they can call in for an interview..
OBJECTIVE
The objective portion of your resume can be very helpful when you are targeting specific positions. Make sure it defines what you looking for in one or two sentences.
(EXAMPLE) If you are a Conventional machinist who has worked with Lathe and Milling machines only and you have over 10 years experience, you might try this example in the objective section, (Conventional Lathe and Milling Machinist with over ten years setup & operating experience). If you are an Acme Gridley machinist with over 15 years background, (Acme Gridley Screw Machinist, with over 15 years setup and operating experience).
SUMMARY
If you are familiar with a multitude of tasks throughout the machine shop, use the Summary section to explain the various tasks you can perform and machines you can operate.
Over 15 years experience in the machine shop industryI can setup up and operate the following machinesConventional Lathe and Milling machinesCNC Lathe and Milling MachinesHorizontal and Vertical Boring MillsVertical turning Lathe’s5 years experience as a lead person
Take your most applicable skills and abilities from your past work experience and showcase them in the Summary section of your resume. Your resume must be clear and lead the Employer in the direction you want to go.
